Fiddler Guy Blakeman was born in 1911 in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, in the foothills of the Cumberland Mountains, and learned old-time fiddle from his father. At age 16 he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Losing his factory job during the Great Depression, he then found work playing fiddle on radio and TV with various local bands. He had a very inventive fiddling style, never playing a tune exactly the same way twice. Here he is accompanied by Dave Pinson on guitar and vocal.
Guy has heard this tune all his life, but as a boy he was especially impressed by the Skillet Lickers’ recording.Cumberland Gap
