Fiddler Guy Blakeman was born in 1911 in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, in the foothills of the Cumberland Mountains, and learned old-time fiddle from his father. At age 16 he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Losing his factory job during the Great Depression, he then found work playing fiddle on radio and TV with various local bands. He had a very inventive fiddling style, never playing a tune exactly the same way twice. Here he is accompanied by Dave Pinson on guitar.
Guy learned Katy Hill from several sources: his father, an old Kentucky fiddler named Steve McFarland back in 1922, and from Lowe Stokes of the Skillet Lickers.Katy Hill
