The Amazing Slow Downer is useful and affordable, and it comes with a 30-day free trial period. ASD works like a software CD player. Just put a CD in your computer’s drive and play it using ASD. Or switch to the file player mode and work with MP3, AIFF, AAC/MP4 and WAV files. Note: M4P files from the iTunes store are not supported.
ASD can slow down or increase the speed of the music – between -20% (one-fifth speed) and +200% (double speed) – without changing the pitch. Wrong key? Change the pitch in semi-tones – at full or altered speed. Out of tune? Adjust the pitch in cents (100ths of a semi-tone) to suit your instrument. It does all this in real-time. It also let’s you set up loops, so you can identify a certain passage of music and have it automatically repeat. The sound quality is excellent.
Grey finds The Amazing Slow Downer to be extremely useful for transcribing music. Slowing down the music and isolating challenging passages can be a great help. It is also very useful for practicing, for playing along with recorded music at your own pace, tuned to your instrument. Tech support has been excellent and prompt for Grey, often coming from Rolf Nilsson himself, the author of the software.
